Find My iPhone is a web app and service for your iPhoneiDevices and Macs that you can use to find and protect your Apple device if it is ever lost or stolen. Find My iPhone is also available on the iCloud website. Use the iCloud website service to search for and send a message remotely, play a sound, lock or wipe your iOS devices and Macs.

Find My iPhone may already be enabled if you already have an iCloud account set up (see this article for more information). Once you’ve set up Find My iPhone, you can use Find My iPhone to find your device if it should ever be lost.

When you set up Find My iPhone, your paired Apple Watch and AirPods are also set up automatically so you can find them too!

If you have set up family sharing, you can also activate lost mode for devices belonging to family members.

How to set up Find My iPhone (or Find My iPad or Find My iPod)

How to set up Find My iPhone for your Mac

Use Find My iPhone to find your device (AirPods, Apple Watch, Mac, iPod, iPad, or iPhone).

  1. Sign in to the iCloud website on a Mac or PC, or use the Find My iPhone app on another iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
  2. Find your device
    1. Open Find my iPhone and select a device to view its location on a map
    2. If the device is nearby, you can let it play a sound that will help you or someone else nearby to find it

If you cannot find your device, activate the lost mode

  • Click All Devices, and then select the device you want to put or lock in lost mode
    • AppleOS must have watchOS 3 or higher installed in order to use Lost Mode
    • You can lock a Mac or iOS 5 device, but not track it
  • Click Lost Mode or Lock

  • If you try to put a family member’s iOS device in lost mode and the device does not have a password set, that person’s Apple ID password must be entered
    • When trying to lock a family member’s Mac, that person’s Apple ID password must be entered
  • If you’re in Lost Mode, tracking begins and you’ll see your device’s current location and any changes to its location on the map
    • When your device is online, when you put it in Lost mode or lock, lock, and tracking begins. When location services are turned off on your device, it is temporarily turned on to track your device’s location. A confirmation email will be sent to your Apple ID email address
