🥇 HomePod not available in the Home app or is not displayed? How to fix

8 min

Multiple users claim they can’t Access the HomePod’s settings from the Home app on their iPhone or iPad. After successfully setting up the HomePod, the user is shown the “HomePod not available” error in the Home app (or “No response” is displayed). In addition, the error is not displayed under “HomeKit” and “Not available” is displayed.

Despite this error, users can still use their HomePod with Siri, and it even appears as an AirPlay option in the Control Center and in the list of Apple ID devices. What is missing is the ability to change the HomePod’s settings, from renaming to setting up Siri settings to accessibility features such as voice-over and touch settings. So how can we get our HomePods to show up in the Home app?

After hearing this story from some of our colleagues, Reader, we decided to do a test. And you don’t know that we ran into the same problem, that the HomePod works, but it shows up as Unavailable in the Home app. The good news is that after trying it out a bit, we figured out how to display it in the home app! Here’s how:

How to display your HomePod in the Home app

  1. If you only use the Home app for your HomePod and have not set up any additional HomeKit accessories, delete “My home” (or whatever you called your home).

HomePod functions AirPlay 2 technology!

Apple’s iOS 11.4 uses AirPlay 2, so you can play music from your HomePod in any room from any room. Or if you want to move music with multiple HomePods from one place to another, it’s easy with AirPlay 2!

Would you like to play the same song anywhere with your iDevice, HomePod, Apple TV or Siri? Yes, AirPlay 2 does that too.

Access the AirPlay 2 controls in any app or through the Control Center. Find out what’s going on in any room, on any HomePod or AirPlay-enabled speaker quickly.

Set up stereo sound with 2 HomePods and AirPlay 2

If you’re lucky enough to own more than one HomePod, with AirPlay 2 you can now set them up as a stereo pair for fantastic music and audio experiences. HomePods use Apple’s unique wireless peer-to-peer direct connection to communicate and play music in full sync. Each HomePod plays its own audio channel – left or right – and separates both the ambient energy and the direct energy.

HomePod not available in the Home app or is not displayed? How to fix

Set up a stereo pair of HomePods

Setting up your stereo pair is easy. If you set up a second HomePod in the same room, you will be asked to create a stereo pair. Then your room fills up with great audio almost instantly.

Although these two speakers act as one, each HomePod communicates with each other, so only one speaker responds to Siri requests.

Got Apple Music?

Just ask Siri to play different songs, even different rooms! Or ask Siri to play the same song in every room (or device) without moving. Your HomePod (like your iPhone / iPad) can now communicate with other AirPlay 2-capable speakers. See how Siri controls music playback through speakers from AirPlay-supported manufacturers like Bang & Olufsen, Bluesound, Bose, Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Libratone, Marantz, Marshall, Naim, Pioneer and Sonos.

Check Apple’s latest list to see if your speaker supports AirPlay 2.

The HomePod is already available in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. And it will very soon come to Canada, France and Germany, where other countries are pending to take the next stage of the HomePod earth invasion.

remember

The HomePod is only compatible with iPhone 5s or higher, iPad Pro, iPad Air or higher, iPad mini 2 or higher or iPod touch (6th generation) with iOS 11.2.5 or higher. Stereo and multi-room audio are available from iOS 11.4.
