Test: UE Wonderboom 2 – wonderful sequel

3 min

Review: Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 is small, lightweight, reasonably priced and then it plays even better than the last. And it still flows.

Last June, we received a package that turned out to contain a bit of a positive surprise. In the package was a bluetooth-equipped mini speaker from Ultimate Ears named Wonderboom. The little speaker not only had a catchy name, but also a catchy sound experience. How could such a great and great sound come from such a compact product and at such a low price? The original Wonderboom got very well deserved our top grade. Now Wonderboom is back.

Wonderboom 2 is similar to its predecessor, but is slightly larger. It boasts of being able to play higher, have longer battery life and better protection against water and dust. As something new, two devices can be paired and played in stereo.

Designed on Wonderboom 2

In terms of design, Wonderboom 2 is very similar to its predecessor, but there is still time for some improvements. The volume buttons, the big plus and minus on the front, have become bigger and more comfortable to press. It has also become taller and wider, but quite interesting 5 grams lighter.

On the top of the small wireless speaker you will find three buttons on which it can be turned on and off as well as paired with devices. During the test period it has been tested with several different mobile phones, without any technical challenges.

Behind a small rubber flap on the back is a Micro-USB charging port. Like last time, we have to settle for Micro-USB and unfortunately not USB-C. Ultimate Ears promises a battery life of 13 hours, which we can not recognize.

Wonderboom 2 feels solid and feels like a piece of quality hardware. As an added security, it is shock resistant, equipped with IP67 certification and floats on top of water. It has been out too little of each in the test period, such as being handled by a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old, and has managed it all for UG and still looks new.

Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 is available in five different colors: Blue, Red, Black, Gray and Peach.

The sound from Wonderboom 2

Wonderboom, the name pretty well explains how the device plays. For the price it sounds wonderful and with a little extra bass. Despite the bass-filled sound, the treble is still detailed. There are plenty of speakers that sound better, but they usually cost a lot more.

Once again, I am convinced that Wonderboom 2 will sound a lot to many and play more than good enough. Of course, it can't match more expensive wireless speakers, but there is plenty of value for money. It plays louder, better and fuller than the original Wonderboom.

It could have been great with an app where you could play with the sound of Wonderboom 2, but not at all a necessity. Sometimes it can also be liberating not to have to download another app.

Still no USB-C input for charging, but despite that, Wonderboom 2 is still Wünderbar.

Wonderboom 2 is wonderful

UE Wonderboom 2 is perfect for the courtyard party, for the kids room or as a kitchen or bathroom speaker. It does not replace the primary plant of the home, but for 799 kroner, even below 700 kroner, it plays surprisingly well and long.

It is shock resistant and well protected against water and dust. Should you drop it in the pool, it will do it too. You should not replace the old Wonderboom with this one, but if you need a nice little bluetooth speaker, Wonderboom 2 is an obvious choice.

UE Wonderboom lands on 6 out of 6 stars.
